Creative Nail Design (CND)

The shellac manicure is one of the most durable and long-lasting manicures that we offer and remains without chips or cracks for up to one month. This type of manicure combines a formula that is half nail polish and half nail gel and is a product of Creative Nail Design (CND). The CND shellac can be applied to your nails just like regular polish but it cured using UV lamps similar to gel.

Advantages of a Shellac Manicure

If you are sick of your nails chipping on a regular basis and don’t have the time or money to have them repaired, then a shellac manicure might be ideal for you. Shellac nails also tend to be smoother and thinner than gel nails which can have a number of practical benefits. In addition, shellac nails allow you to have a consistent color for a period of three to four weeks without having to maintain or reapply your polish.

Disadvantages of Shellac Nails

While a shellac manicure has many advantages like its longevity and durability, there is no doubt that there are a number of disadvantages.

First of all, like gel nails, the UV lamp required to cure shellac nails is not without criticism. While our skilled technicians are trained in the proper use of the UV lamp and never exceed the appropriate timeframes for use, issues still exist. For instance, repeated UV lamp exposure can damage nail cuticles and the surrounding skin. In addition, the durable nature of shellac nails means that you must commit to a particular style or color for a longer period of time. This means that you need to be very sure of the color you want when investing in a shellac nail manicure. Finally, your nails will need some preparatory work before the UV curing takes place. If this process is repeated too frequently then it can damage your nails making them brittle and weak.

Shellac Nail Recommendations

Use sunscreen lotion during the UV curing stage.
